Shrimp and Crab with Seafood Appetizer Bread Recipe
There are a number of recipes out there, here is one we particularly like and are sharing:
This recipe should take 30 minutes to cook and a prep time of 10 minutes.
· 2 tbsp butter (unsalted)
· 1 loaf French bread
· 2 tbsp flour (all-purpose)
· 1 pinch salt (kosher)
· 1 ¼ cup milk (heated)
· Black pepper to taste
· 2 slices Swiss cheese
· 1 tbsp parmesean cheese
· 1 beaten egg yolk
· 2 tbsp unsalted, softened butter
· 3 oz crab meat
· 8 oz cooked shrimp
· 1 tbsp chopped parsley
· 6 oz pepper jack cheese
· Minced green for garnish
Heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice the French bread in half along the length. Your shrimp and crab meat should be drained and set aside. Use the microwave to warm the milk for at least one minute and leave it aside. Next, use a skillet to melt the butter. Pour in the flour and keep mixing on low heat until everything blends well for about 3 minutes.
Add the milk to your flour and butter mixture slowly, and blend it in well so that lumps will not form. Afterward, lower the heat while the mixture continues cooking until it becomes creamy and thick. At this point, you should put in the salt, cheese, and pepper, and keep turning it to let the cheese melt well.
Beat the egg yolk, add the butter and flour sauce, and mix them well. At this point, you can pour the yolk mixture into your butter sauce and add the remaining spoons of butter.
Keep turning everything while it cooks for about one minute on low heat. Then add your crab meat and shrimp, folding them in gently, pour the parsley in and onion if you so desire.
After making your mixture, put the sliced bread on separate pieces of aluminium foil on your baking sheet, spread your mixture on the bread, and fold the foil around the bread to maintain structure while cooking. Bake it in your heated oven for at least 15 minutes, bring the bread out then spread you pepper jack cheese on them, and bake it for at least 8 more minutes. Remove it from the oven, let it cool, and serve as desired.
