From the Louisiana SPCA:

The Louisiana SPCA is currently handling animal emergency and animal rescue calls ONLY.  To report an animal emergency or an animal needing rescue please contact the Louisiana SPCA at 504-368-5191 ext. 100 or contact the Louisiana SPCA by email at info@la-spca.org.  Because the shelter is located in Algiers, which is still impacted by power outages, the Louisiana SPCA is currently not open to the public but we will resume our regular operations as soon as possible.

The LA/SPCA is also alerting New Orleans residents that several unauthorized animal groups have entered New Orleans to go onto citizens’ properties to remove animals, presenting themselves as animal rescuers.  Please be aware that the Louisiana SPCA is the only organization in Orleans Parish authorized to respond to animal rescue calls and to respond to animal emergencies.

Finding coffee this morning and dinner last night still proved to be a challenge as large segments of New Orleans are still without power and services.  Luckily the Rue on Oak and Carrolton gave me a java buzz this morning, and Byblos on Magazine St., gave me a hummus fix upon returning home.  Please help your fellow citizens and share your knowledge regarding open eateries, shops and services on this post.

Where are you getting the nutritional and vehicle fuel to keep you going?
Are you open for business?
Post any information in comments here:

Because of the holiday weekend, Gambit Weekly will go to press early this week and the papers will hit the streets on Saturday! In keeping with the spirit of this “Going Green” issue, ride your bike to your favorite Gambit distribution point and read about other ways to help the environment. The weather on Saturday is supposed to be sunny, with a high of 93 and low of 80 (Maybe a cool breeze will be coming in?)

All Day Buffet released “The New Orleans 100″ today, an exciting and positive look at the ideas, events and businesses that have shaped our city for the better in the past three years.

“The New Orleans 100″ is a worldwide initiative that will highlight and encourage discussion among millions about 100 of the most innovative and world-changing ideas to take root in the city since Katrina. After hearing so many of the positive changes and innovative projects post-Katrina, we’ve decided enough is enough. It’s time to put an end to the negative press in mainstream media. We know that the levees broke. We know that our city is dysfunctional. We know that. But do you know about Prospect.1? Or about the influx of young professionals into New Orleans? The world needs to know about the NEW New Orleans. And to quote Brad Pitt, “If you’re going to rebuild something, why not rebuild it right?” Amen brother.”

Check out the list, and please pass this site on to your social circle, so everyone can become aware of the good things happening in our own backyard.New Orleans 100

A line was formed this morning before 9:00 am for what is the best sale of the year for New Orleans women.  In celebration of the birthday of the Belladonna’s Day Spa owner, the entire merchandise line of the store goes on sale for the amount of her age.  This year everything is 49% off, with the exception of the makeup, hair and skin care lines that are 20% off.  This event is a true definition of a sale (unlike that barely worth it 10% discount stores try tempt you with).

Samantha Brown visits New Orleans on tonight’s episode (Thursday, July 17) of Passport To Great Weekends airing at 9 pm CST on the Travel Channel. Check out this episode to see if very very perky Samantha Brown picks the right spots or ends up amongst the tourist wide eyed on Bourbon St. According to Brown’s press page the host may be spotted listening to jazz in the Faubourg Marigny, dancing and bowling at Rock ‘n’ Bowl, taking a back water bayou trip and helping rebuild homes. After you watch, post comments on what you think of the show here. Did anyone happen to spot Samantha Brown filming in NOLA?
