Landrieu Seeks Public Input on New Police Chief

Mayor-elect Mitch Landrieu wants the public to participate in selecting the next chief of the New Orleans Police Department. The NOPD Task force hosts a community meeting next Thursday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m., at the Louisiana Superdome’s South West Club Claiborne Room. Xavier University president Norman Francis and Nolan Rollins, president of the Urban League of Greater New Orleans, chair the task force, which is made up of various community leaders.

“I understand that often times the best ideas come from people in neighborhoods across the city, who deal with the issue of crime everyday. That’s why I’m encouraging citizens to let their voices be heard, as we work to find the next police chief,” says Landrieu via a press release announcing the meeting.

Citizens can also let their opinions known by filling out an online survey. Hard copies of the survey are available at Urban League of Greater New Orleans (2322 Canal Street).

I checked out the survey hoping to see something worthwhile. Turns out to be filled with tautologies.

What’s the difference between
“Strong leadership skills” and
“Ability to initiate and manage positive organizational change”?

There wasn’t much there that couldn’t have obviously been checked as “important” or “very important.”

This seems like political kabuki. And I say that hoping for the best for the new mayor. This “bad mayor” thing has to end. I’m tired of going around NOLA at night wondering if I’m going to get randomly jacked.

I think constructive to call citizens to popose superintendent.How sweet would the people elect an honest citizen who has the purpose to enforce the law and not abusing the law,who has the purpose to protect, seeking the protection of the citizens
and respect for human rights!!!!

Wow you can pick up a hard copy at the Urban League of New Orleans office… Ain’t that great….

Just go to http://www.nul.org/ and you see one of the biggest reasons New Orleans is in such bad shape… Hint: His initials are MM.
