It’s James Carroll Booker III’s birthday today. He would have been 70. (He died on Nov. 8, 1983.) The enigmatic and flamboyant pianist may not be mentioned as often as Professor Longhair, Dr. John or other New Orleans pianists, but few who saw him perform would say he wasn’t as memorable.
