The old Coffea address in the Bywater is now the new Satsuma Café (3218 Dauphine St., 304-5962), a coffee shop, juice bar and casual breakfast and lunch spot with a focus on healthy eating.

First-time restaurateurs Peter and Cassi Dymond opened Satsuma Café over the weekend, and they plan to serve from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day except Tuesdays.

The café still looks a lot like Coffea, with its mismatched tables, big windows, side patio and exposed brick walls mounting contemporary canvases and assorted artsy bric-a-brac.

The turkey and avocado sandwich I had for lunch here was good, but it was the side salad that was really interesting. It had Boston lettuce, pea shoots, pumpkin seeds and peaches and plums, with a very light goat cheese dressing. The menu features a list of meal-sized salads like this.
I washed down lunch with a pint of freshly juiced carrot, celery and kale, which seemed to redeem a lot of poor nutritional choices from the past weekend.

I concur. This place is fabulous! It’s just the kind of thing that’s been missing from the ByWater, a clean, healthy, friendly cafe serving breakfast and lunch. Props to Satsuma.

I heart this place! Not only are the juices just what I’ve been missing lately, but they have some great vegan options, too.

First of all,I agree with Story and let me mention, I heart Story. But back to topic, Satsuma is different and something that the neighborhood has been looking for. Thank you Dymond family for meeting our needs.
