bailout sign

Sports are supposed to be a distraction; a way for people to forget about the real world for a dozen or so hours a week and worry about things that have little-to-no consequence on their daily lives.

-

But at their worst, sports can also be a painful reminder of everything that’s wrong with the world right now. Think about the Saints’ fans in the picture up there. They took the time to make a sign that made a statement — not just to pander to ESPN’s cameras. It was one that reminded us of the troubling reality that is our times and what we assign value to when the times are at their most dire. What are you to tell these fans now after watching last night’s cruel and unusual turn of events?

-

And then you have the fans that make up their own reality. The ones that are not bound by traditional rules of sign-making and dress. Who cares if Halloween is still more than three weeks away? Optimus Saint is here and he’s a visible sonic boom; good ol’ jazz.

But the for the most part, the ESPN Gods got their offerings, pretty ladies got their camera time and then Saints fans were sent home looking for the proverbial sign that there are better days coming.

The sign commenting on the ridiculous bailout was a raiford family effort…jeff, beck, liz and the colorado raiford’s jessica and aron. our feelings about what congress passed couldn’t really be written in public…the citizens of this country are being led to slaughter in a manner so sinister it borders on evil. we have such poor leadership in washington we may never recover from this current debacle. heaven help us!
