JulieSmithNPR continues the love for New Orleans artists. Today Morning Edition did a profile of writer Julie Smith, author of two locally-based mystery series, winner of the Mystery Writers’ of America’s Edgar Award, and owner of one of the finest pads overlooking Frenchmen Street. The piece also revealed that Julie is suffering from a syndrome that’s affected more than a few locals…Katrina Writer’s Block:

The city’s most horrific flaw came to light almost three years ago, during Hurricane Katrina, when it was revealed that billions of dollars spent building levees to protect the city were for naught. The storm devastated the city — and the author. Smith’s last novel was published a week before the storm hit the city. She hasn’t published a book since.

“I’ve had people say to me: ‘I always read mysteries before I got to a city because that’s how I learn what’s really going on there,’ ” says Smith. “I feel like that’s my job, to tell what’s really going on here. And until I figure out what’s really going on here, I’m not sure how to write.”

Time to start writing Julie, dear. Use that mind of yours. There is enough in the news so that a writer could outdo Shakepeare. Yes got our book in the works. Now who will publish it. Get to work girl.

To Whom It May Concern
ATTN: Julia Smith

This story I am presenting to you is a Cold Case murder of my brother, Ronald Eugene Stone SS# 455-02-0056 his date of birth is March 28, 1952. Approximately around the middle of May 1987 Ronald had a roommate Mike Lynch that he went to High School with that beat him up and my mother Dorothy Stone goes to Ronald’s apartment and sees that Ronald’s eyes were black and blue and swollen and he was taken to the Dallas VA Hospital on Lancaster Road for x-rays to see is if he suffered a concussion. To start off my mother, Dorothy Stone, who lives at 1210 Denton Drive, Euless, Tx 76039 and my oldest sister, Debbie Henderson flew out of town on May 29, 1987 and flew back on May 30 or May 31st 1987 to go to a Church Convention in New York. Two months before my brother, Ronald Stone went missing he told my youngest sister, Paula (Stone) Bolinger that she would be the Beneficary of his Life Insurance Policy through the Military. My brother, Ronald Stone had a stroke following a double hernia surgery at Ft. Bragg, NC. and was sent to Walter Reed Hospital for Rehabilitation for a year and was sent back to Ft. Bragg, NC to be discharged with 100% Disability form the Army in April 1986. I went to Ft. Bragg, NC to pick up my brother, Ronald Stone to live with my mother, Dorothy Stone. Ronald lived with my mother for 10 months as my mother was always wanting my brother (Ronald’s) money. Ronald Stone started hanging around my youngest sister, Paula Stone, Ervin Mann, Scott Joy and Ronald’s lover Sharon Joy who is Scott Joy’s mother and other drug dealers. My brother, Ronald Stone moved to the Ector Square Apartments in Euless, Tx 76039 from May 1st 1987 and went missing May 29th, 1987. Ronald’s car was found burning on Spur 482 in Irving, Tx in Dallas County. Ronald Stone lived in Tarrant County and the car was found burning in Irving, Tx , which is in Dallas County. David Henderson, who is Debbie Henderson husband went to my mother’s house on May 30, 1987 at 9p.m. to pick up up my mother, Dorothy Stone and Debbie Henderson whose plane was arriving at 10 p.m. on May 30, 1987 and David Henderson received a phone call from Debbie that the flight had been delayed and that they would be arriving at 2 a.m. May 31, 1987. While David Henderson was at the house he said Paula (Stone) Bolinger had left with her two daughter’s Gina Mann & Jennifer Stone at 10 p.m. with someone and I called my mother, Dorothy Stone at 5:30 a.m.on May 31, 1987 to see how their trip went for the Church Convention in New York City and she my mother told me the police had just left and told me that Ronald’s car was found burning in Irving, Tx, I then asked my mother if Paula was there and she said no, so I told everyone, Debbie Henderson, Dorothy Stone and David Henderson to go check Ronald’s apartment. I became very suspicious and called Sharon Joy’s house as soon as I got off the phone and Sharon answered the phone on the very first ring and asked me if anything was wrong and I told her that Ronald’s car was burning on Spur 482 in Irving, Texas in Dallas County and she said that was impossible as Scott had seen Ronald at the 7-Eleven store at 3 a.m. on May 31, 1987 and at that moment I heard Scott Joy talking in the background asking if everything was okay to his mother Sharon Joy and I asked to speak to Scott so she gave the phone to him to talk to me and I asked him about my brother, Ronald and he said Ronald came into his store at 3 a.m. to buy cigarette paper rolls and I asked him if Ronald was with anyone and he said he was alone and I asked him why he was home so early as Scott Joy’s shift was from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and Scott said he got sick at 3 a.m. and had to come home. The time card was checked and Scott Joy did get off work at 3 a.m.

Detective Don Scott was working on the case in Euless, Tx as that is where my brother, Ronald lived. The first incident with Don Scott was a note that he had been left on the apartment door that Ronald Stone had filed a report of a check missing from his check book and the only ones that had access to Ronald’s checks were Paula (Stone) Bolinger, Dorothy Stone, Sharon & Scott Joy, Ervin Mann and Ronald Stone. Ronald and other people were writing checks for cash almost every single day. My mother, Dorothy Stone and Paula (Stone) Bolinger lived at my brother Ronald’s apartment for one month so that they could divide up all of Ronald Stone furniture and all of his belongings. I remember Detective Scott came over to meet with the family members and to talk over Ronald’s case. As soon as Don Scott walked in the apartment he walked straight to the kitchen to a cabinet above the microwave and pulled out a tray with three syringes on it and he said these syringes had not been used and that Ronald was involved in drugs. Don Scott also walked into Ronald’s bedroom and found a necklace and asked who it belonged to and Paula (Stone) Bolinger said it was hers. There was also a Postal Scale that was found in the closet and Don Scott asked what a Postal Scale at Ronald Stone’s apartment was being used for and Paula says for weighing mail. My mother Dorothy Stone forged Ronald Stone’s Social Security Disability and VA Disability checks for herself.

Paula Bolinger’s alibi was that she was at my mother’s house on May 30th 1987 waiting for Ronald to come over to watch movies and that Ervin Mann was at Ronald’s apartment looking for Ronald and calling Paula at my mother Dorothy Stone’s house. However, David Henderson said Paula left with her two daughters at 10 p.m. on May 30, 1987 and no phone calls came into my mothers house except the one from Debbie that the plane was being delayed. So my mother, Dorothy Stone and Debbie Henderson alibi is that they are out of town at a Church Convention in New York City.

Seven months later, on January 16, 1988 a couple found a skull walking through a field at Shorthorn Drive and Campus Circle in Irving, Texas which is approximately 6 miles from where Ronald lived. The Irving Police Department took over the case and yellow taped off an area around a tree. Michael Keiry called my mother, Dorothy Stone, myself, Beverly Nagy and Paula (Stone) Bolinger into the Irving Police Department. Investigator Keiry said the reason I brought you in Dorothy is because you are Ronald’s mother, the reason you were brought in Beverly is because you are Ronald’s sister and the reason you are brought in Paula is because you know Ervin Eugene Mann. Investigator Keiry showed me pictures (snapshots) of what they found and the tree that was yellow taped and in some of these pictures they had put together the bones on the ground that looked to me like a complete skeleton. Clothing was also found although no family members were allowed to see the clothing or identify the remains. An article came out in the newspaper about sketetal remains of a male 45 to 60 years old and articles of clothes were also mentioned in this newspaper clip. I had gone over to my mother’s house and Paula was there and she said they had found Ronnie and I asked her how she knew this as Ronald was only 35 years old and she was crying. Three days later Detective Don Scott of the Euless, TX Police Department came over to the house and said they positively identified the remains as Ronald Eugene Stone. My question is “How did Paula know they had found Ronald Stone unless she knew something”. An autopsy was performed which took approximately six weeks and my mother Dorothy Stone and Debbie Henderson picked out a pine box casket for my brother Ronald Stone with a comment that why would you buy an expense casket just for a bunch of bones in a very uncaring tone in her voice. Since I was not able to identify the remains, as I was a dental lab technician and I had a plaster mold of my brother Ronald’s teeth and I was unable to see the clothing or the car so I made an appointment to see Frank Seido the Funeral Director at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home on Feb. 29, 1988 to see the remains just before the funeral . I was totally shocked when I saw a mahogany casket instead of a pine box that my mother said she bought. The body that was in the casket was a full skeleton with flesh still on the bones the skull had a hole in the left eye socket and three holes on the left side of the skull and the six anterior had been chipped off and I drew a picture of how the teeth looked in this medical book I brought. I had asked Frank Seido what the red wavy lines were going through the skull and he said everyone has those and blood was still going through the wavy lines in the skull. Frank also pointed out to me a checkbook that was suppose to be buried with Ronald Stone’s remains and he told me to take this checkbook home and anything else I wanted out of the casket. I called my husband, John Nagy back to the viewing room and wanted him to take pictures and that I was told I could take anything out of this casket including the checkbook and my husband said no this is not right even though Frank Seido said I could. So I just kept the checkbook. At the memorial service none of the family members cried except myself. Paula (Stone) Bolinger thought it was a party and was laughing. My mother, Dorothy did not even cry during the 21 gun salute and when the flag was given to her. My mother, Dorothy continued to forge Ronald Stone’s Social Security and VA checks for the entire time from June 1987 through February 1988. When the Army came to get the money that my mother Dorothy had forged she said she had spent it and they had to set her up in a way for her to pay the money back. She was so mad, she said the Government owes her everything and owes her a living, my mother is always looking for a free handout no matter how she can get it. My mother enjoys using people to get everything see can get even free groceries through Church Banks.

In 1991 my mother, Dorothy Stone, a friend Syed Ali and myself, Beverly Nagy all went to Shorthorn Drive and Campus Circle and went to the tree that I had been shown pictures of the yellow police marker tape and we all saw some red and yellow plastic pieces in the dirt by the tree that we could not pull up so I had to work the next couple of days and I told mother in a couple of days we would come back with some trash bags and a couple of shovels and for mother not to tell Paula that we were going out there. To my surprise when mother & I got there someone had already dug up this large area (the size of a grave) and I asked mother if she told Paula and she said no and I did not believe her. We picked up the pieces which appeared to be a child’s swimming pool and we both headed over to the Irving Police Department and showed this to Captain Hall and he sat his feet up on the desk and said to my mother Dorothy and myself anyone can throw a swimming pool away and I replied back but nobody digs up a swimming pool 500 ft off the side of the road. So Captain Hall kept some of the pieces of the swimming pool and he told us the throw the rest of the swimming pool out. So when we got to my mother’s house Gina Mann (Paula’s daughter by Gene Mann) came outside and wanted to know what we had in the trash bags and we showed them to her and she identified the swimming pool as that of Sharon Joy’s that she swam in and she asked us what happened to the pool and we did not say anything.

In 1993 my husband John & I meet with the District Attorney, Mike Gillette twice and we discussed everything about my brother Ronald Stone’s case. I told Mike Gillette that had viewed the remains at the funeral home and what I saw and that the Medical Examiner who did the autopsy in the very beginning say they found 103 bones and that it was an unknown death. I told Mike Gillette about the teeth being chipped off and that there was a hole in the left eye socket and three holes in the left side of the skull. I told him I was not allowed to identify the remains, see the clothing or the car, so I made an appointment with Frank Seido the Funeral Director and I told him what I saw and that Frank Seido said this checkbook was to be buried with box of bones so Frank Seido told me to take it home and I did. I then told Mike Gillette there were too many things that did not match up with what I saw in the casket. Mike Gillette show me the x-rays they took at the Dallas VA Hospital of my brother Ronald Stone around the middle of May 1987 when he was beat up and they kept him there for observation for a few days. These x-rays did not show any signs of a concussion or anything. I also asked Mike Gillette that I was never allowed to see the clothing and he showed John & I a large picture of all the clothing that was recovered at the crime scene and the clothing was perfectly clean just like it came out of a dresser drawer. I said there is no way this clothing could be out in the weather for seven months and look this way and Mike Gillette said this is Ronald’s clothing and this is the way it was found. I asked Mike Gillette how come the pre mortem and post mortem look exactly the same and Mike Gillette told me and I asked him then how do the doctors know when someone has a concussion and what the doctors are looking for and what the purpose of taking the x-ray was in the first place. Mike Gillette told me I did not know anything about teeth even though I was a dental lab technician. I was talking to Mike Gillette about the anterior teeth of my brother’s that I viewed in the casket on February 29, 1988 and how everything did not match up so I asked Mike Gillette that I wanted to exhume the body of my brother Ronald Stone. My mother gave me permission to due this. On February 18, 1993 we had my brother Ronald Stone’s body exhumed. The entire Bluebonnet Funeral Home staff, including Frank Seido, Mike Gillette and John and myself were present. When they dug down the vault box was cracked and the casket was full of water and had to be pumped out and only approximated 15 bones were in the casket. The skull was sawed in half and rubber banded together. The total right side of the skull was crushed and missing along with many teeth # 8,7,6 were gone. All Mike Gillette had to say about this was we ought to sue the Bluebonnet Funeral Home for the water in the casket. The same Medical Examiner that said it was an unknown death changed it to a homicide to please Beverly Nagy. Investigator Mike Kiery was brought into Mike Gillette’s office with his notes and Mike Kiery denied me bringing him the checkbook that was in the casket even though I had him sign saying he saw the checkbook and he told Mike Gillette that Ronald Stone was identified with a chest x-ray. However, the body that was in the casket that I saw on February 29, 1988 had a complete chest with muscle still attached to the chest and ribs and the body that was exhumed on February 18, 1993 only had a couple ribs in the casket. How can you identify someone with only two rib bones.

Over the years everyone has kept there mouth quite although there is another issue that needs to be brought to the surface is that I have a brother who lives at home with my mother Dorothy Stone and his name is David Wayne Stone and he has never been out of the house. My mother has kept him in the house and does not want anyone to know that he lives there and I asked her why and her response is she does not want the government to find out he lives there as they will put him to work. My Mother’s house is what you would you call “a pig sty”. If anyone goes in the house that knows my mother David Stone cusses them out. I believe David Stone knows something about my brother Ronald Stone disappearance and murder simply because of my mother hiding him in the house for 21 years.

After the body was exhumed I told everyone that Ronnie had a hole in the left eye and three holes on the left side of the head this what everyone knew. A couple years later Carmen Culpepper who is a friend of my mothers through Karen Culpepper and Karen and Paula (Stone) Bolinger went to school together. At this time I was not speaking to Paula for quite awhile. Carmen called me up to ask me some questions about teeth problems she was having and I gave her the information she needed. Carmen then proceeded to tell me that Paula Bolinger had been brought in for a polygraph test and she failed it and she was so upset about it. Carmen told me that Paula told her that Ronald Stone died of a crushed skull. SO AT THIS POINT THE ONLY ONE THAT KNOWS THAT RONALD HAD A CRUSH SKULL IS PAULA BOLINGER.

In 1992 Paula & Mark Bolinger said they found someone that just came up off the street and offered them a laser cartridge business, a car, $33,000 cash and equipment to get the business going along with $2,500 every single week delivered to the door in cash (no bank account involvement). After 3 years of investigating this business myself I found out it was an L.C. Martin that offered this opportunity to Paula and I found out where L.C. Martin lived and a phoned him and I told him I wanted the same business opportunity as Paula and immediately L.C. Martin took the car away and no longer brought over the cash every week so that business ended. I believe this business was a store front cover up operation.

Immediately Mark Bolinger’s best friend offered him a job at Maddock Transportation, Inc. in Ft. Worth, Texas. So both Paula and Mark Bolinger both work for Bill Maddock. Paula handles the money and Mark is a broker. I believe the business is a drug dealing cover up. The name of the business has changed and the address has changed twice and is now for the third time a post office box address.

In 1993 I went to the Fort Worth Star Telegram and spoke with Domingo Ramirez and gave him all my information and people contact information and the article came out on a front and back section of the newspaper. I had given Domingo Ramirez all of the names of people that I wanted him to speak to and when the article came out I was shocked as my entire family went against me and said I was obsessed with Ronald’s murder and that they used to like me but I have changed. I went to Mr. Ramirez thinking he would help me and the article went totally against me. I was devastated and did not know where to turn to next no one seems to want to listen or care and they just put the case aside and never work on it again. I don’t know who to turn to next. Who can I go to that will help me next?

Years again have gone by I fell pray to my mother Dorothy Stone always needing things done, paperwork, prescriptions filled and just too many nice things I have done to help my mother Dorothy Stone and because of me always talking about Ronald and not ever giving up she has turned the entire family into hating me, Debbie & David Henderson, Mark & Paula Bolinger, Doug & Terri Stone (know one hears from them they live in Vermont and moved there to get away from everything) David Stone, my own children except for one daughter Mary. I do not speak to my son David and daughter Patricia because my mother and Debbie want everyone to hate me because I cannot let this go about Ronald Stone. I found out in 2001 I went to a Seminar with my mother and she bought a living trust and she had Debbie and David Henderson filled everything out at their house and in 2006 John my husband asked to see a copy of the Living Trust and Debbie said no and that John would have to speak to David Henderson and he told John I would not understand the trust anyways so they mailed a small portion of this Living Trust about 6 pages and I took it to an Attorney and he said once your mother passes away I would get nothing and that is the way everything was set up so I confronted my mother about this and she claims this is wrong. My mother is a con artist and she wants everyone to feel sorry for her and give her money. I do not believe my mother Dorothy Stone and I believe I will not be on that Living Trust when she passes away.

My mother has told me on many occasions why I just don’t stop working on Ronald’s case and I tell her because I know all of you know what happened and you are getting away with murder and her reply to me is always the same. Ronnie was garbage he never gave me his money and he deserved to die. Quite a comment coming from a mother that has used me for eight years to get what she wanted out of me and then I am not on the Living Trust when she passes away. I believe there is a sickness there however they all have made me the sick person because this has bothered me for 21 years.

Just two weeks ago the City of Euless and a church called Life Connections Volunteers picked out 4 homes that were in need of repair and my mother Dorothy Stone’s house was chosen for repairs on the outside of the house at 1210 Denton Dr, Euless, Texas 76039. They brought out two dumpster and took down the peelers that were falling down in the front of the house and wooden beams also. They took the metal off the windows and painted them and put them back up, they removed the broken down fence, cut down a tree in the back yard, took down the metal shed and just cleaned everything up around the entire house outside. SO THE DAY AFTER THEY DO THIS MY MOTHER DOROTHY STONE CALLS ME UP AND TELLS ME I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THEY TOOK RONNIE’S SWIMMING POOL. And all this time I was told it was Sharon Joy’s pool that Gina Mann swam in at her house. However, in 1991 we saw the red and yellow pieces sticking out of the ground and I told mother not to tell Paula that we were going out there in a couple of days and mother goes and tells Paula which she denies she did and the swimming pool was already dug up.

My mother Dorothy Stone Social Security # 525-44-2092 received VA compensation and pension benefits for my brother Ronald Stone Social Security # 455-02-0056 from 1987 till May 1996 and I was wanting to know what this benefit payout was for. I found a letter at my mother’s house one day when I was over there and I wrote the VA and that is how I found out that my mother was receiving Ronald’s VA compensation and pension benefits. I have a copy of this letter I am sending to you and the handwriting is in my sister Debbie Henderson handwriting.

I think the swimming was used to transport the body of my brother Ronald Stone to the location at Shorthorn Drive and Campus Circle and everyone had their own alibi, but how did Paula fail a polygraph test and know about the crushed skull get away with this unless she was involved with the disapperance and murder and maybe involved with the Police Department herself.

Not to get off track but a very important issue was in 1991 my mother Dorothy Stone had a car wreck in the Tom Thumb parking lot and her car excelerated at a high rate of speed and she hit 4 cars before her car came to a stop. My mother had let her insurance lapse and one of the drivers insurance company sued her for $3,995.00, however my mother did not want to pay so she put the house in my sister Debbie Henderson’s name. So my mother’s taxes went from $1,100.00 a year to $3,200.00 per year. This went on for twelve years. So Debbie starting getting letters from the City of Euless about how cluttered the yard is and started fining Debbie and the City of Euless finally said they were going to start owning this property if it is not kept up. So Debbie said even though she owns the house she is not going to do this herself and her family it had to be everyone. So David, Debbie, Christinia, & John Henderson, Mark, Paula, Gina & Jennifer Bolinger, David Wayne Stone, Beverly Nagy all had to be there to help Debbie and David Henderson. The junk filled up the entire front yard and three dumb trucks to fill. One thing I remember was when I was cleaning up debri under my brother David Stone’s window I came across a pair of tan cordouroy pants and when I did this David Henderson said to me don’t touch this they go out front with the garbage to be picked up. I believe these pants belonged to my brother Ronald Stone.

I have not received any help from any of these people everyone has just thrown this case out with no respect of my deceased brother and they do not care because they say it was a drug case involvement, however, Paula Bolinger, Gene Mann, Scott Joy all still are involved in drugs but that is okay. I just pray to see justice brought here for my brother Ronald Stone.

I went online to see if I could find anything on the Dorothy Stone Trust in Euless Texas then I came across your Blog on Google and my story about my Brother Ronald Stone. Should we do a book on this about my brother?
