Starting Feb 22, a bunch of salvaged building materials will be on display at The Shops at Canal Place. Strange, you ask? Well here’s the best part: the salvaged building materials have been used by local furniture designers, artists and hobbyists to create furniture projects that will be up for auction at the end of the exhibit. The projects will be on display through March 14. On the 14th, there will be a cocktail reception, live auction and awards presentation. All of the proceeds of this juried furniture exhibition and auction will benefit the Green Project, a nonprofit organization “dedicated to creatively promoting and encouraging environmental sustainibility.” Green Project accepts donated, recycled building materials in good condition for resale at their bulding materials recycling store in Bywater. The organization also operates a variety of other programs and educational opportunities. For more information visit its Web site at : www.thegreenproject.org

 Eco-friendly wood furniture company features “green” sustainable furniture pieces 

CHESTERFIELD TWP, MI (June, 19th, 2008)  Natural Fine Furnishings is excited to showcase its unique one-of-a-kind furniture line at World Market Center Living Green Pavilion. Natural Fine Furnishings, is proud to be an eco-friendly company, proudly sells a line of “green” sustainable wood furniture that is unique, 100 percent natural and created by skilled craftsmen. Natural Fine Furnishing is a member of the Sustainable Furniture Council.

The creations are made deep into the Chiang Mai area of northern Thailand. Monkey Pod, Farmed Teak Wood and Mango Wood are the types of kiln-dried sustainable wood used to create the pieces. Grown specifically for the furniture industry only the branches of the Monkey Pod tree are utilized during the creation of the pieces, which allows the trees to replenish their limbs for years of continued growth. Our products include end tables, wall panels, tables and benches, stools and display stands, farm teak spa and decorative accessories.
“Each piece is beautiful and unique. Depending on the country of origin of the trees, all of the items are made from sustainable wood and have variations to them. We use all natural stains with no chemicals. Each piece of furniture is hand carved and finished to true works of art. Customers will notice fluctuations in humidity and temperature levels resulting in naturally cracks appearing in the grain over time. This is normal and adds to the beauty and uniqueness to each piece.
