Um… would someone like to try their hand at explaining why, according to yesterday’s Times-Picayune, Blanco, the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency and LA state treasurer Kennedy are squabbling over building these “Louisiana Cottages” in alternative housing communities — a project worth $75.4 million? According to the TP article, Mississippi has constructed 598 units and put people in 478 of them, and they’re on private property.

So here’s what I just don’t get… what’s up with building expensive temporary structures just to go back later and build something permanent? if they can be built on private property, why can’t the $75 million just be given to people to start rebuilding their homes if they still need a place to live?

Am I missing something really important here or does this sound silly to everyone else too?
